Word Counter
I once lost a $200 freelance gig over 47 words. The client wanted 500; I delivered 453, and their system auto-rejected it. That stung — and it's why I now count every word I write. This word counter gives you words, characters, sentences, and reading time as you type.
Paste or type any text to get instant, live counts — no signup, nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
How many words fit on a page?
Roughly 250–300 words per double-spaced page, or 500+ single-spaced. It varies with font size and margins, but 275 is a solid rule of thumb for planning.
How is reading time calculated?
Average adult reading speed is about 200 words per minute. The tool divides your word count by 200 and rounds up — so a 450-word article shows as a 3-minute read.
Do spaces count as characters?
The character count includes everything — letters, spaces, and punctuation — which is what most platforms with character limits actually measure.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser — your text never leaves your device. Paste with confidence.
